After an undertrial escapee from a Patiala hospital, the Punjab jails minister suspends senior police officers and threatens action against two other warders.

The Punjab Prisons Department has suspended Deputy Superintendent Security Patiala Jail, Warrant Officer Patiala, and two warders as per the directives of Punjab Jails Minister Harjot Singh Bains to take severe action in the matter of the escape of a prisoner on Thursda

In accordance with the directives issued in this respect, jail wardens Satpal Singh and Mandeep Singh, as well as DSP (Security) Varun Sharma and Assistant Superintendent/Warrant Officer Harbans Singh of Patiala Jail, have been suspended.In addition, Jail Superintendent Patiala Manjit Singh Tiwana and Assistant Jail Superintendent Patiala Jagjit Singh have each received a show cause notice.

Amrik Singh, a resident of Dedna village in the Ghagga block of the Patiala district, was receiving treatment at Rajinder Hospital while serving his sentence in Patiala Jail. Due to the carelessness of these employees, the prisoner was able to escape from the hospital.

The state government’s regulations were also broken when the prisoner was transported from Patiala Jail to Rajindra Hospital.The jails minister sternly reminded the department’s officials and staff members that any form of negligence would not be permitted in such circumstances.
